Chocolate powder: A delicious drink for any occasion

Chocolate powder is one of those delightful drinks that can lift your mood with just one sip. Most of us have a soft spot for chocolate, and this drink is the easiest way to enjoy it. Whether it’s a cozy, hot chocolate in winter or a refreshing iced chocolate in summer, chocolate always has a way of making you feel good!

Choco flashback

The first chocolate drink is thought to have been created by the Mayans around 2,500–3,000 years ago. The Mayans didn’t just enjoy chocolate; they had an entire culture surrounding cacao! A drink made with cacao was also a staple in Aztec culture up until around 1400 AD, and they called it *xocōlātl*. Imagine the Aztecs sipping their cacao, perhaps with a bit of allspice or chili pepper—a far cry from the sweet chocolate drinks we know today.

Later, this drink made its way to Europe when Spanish explorers brought it from Mexico to the Old World. There, chocolate began to grow in popularity. Europeans started adding sugar and spices, making it sweeter and more appealing to their tastes. Since then, chocolate drinks have evolved in countless ways, leading to the many chocolate drinks we enjoy today!

How is it made?

Chocolate powder is made from cacao, derived from the seeds of the cacao tree. These seeds are dried and ground to produce the rich powder we all know and love. Chocolate drinks also often contain milk powder, sugar, and cocoa butter.

Ways to enjoy it

Making a chocolate drink is easy! Just mix the powder with hot milk or water, and viola, you have a delicious drink. If you want it a bit sweeter, you can add sugar, honey, or syrup. For a fun twist, try adding a hint of cinnamon, vanilla, or even chili for a spicy version! The recommended serving size is 25g of powder per 125ml of milk or water. It’s ideal for both hot (25g in 200ml hot milk) and cold (25g in 200ml cold milk) drinks, as well as smoothies (30g in 150ml cold milk with ice cubes, blended for 20 seconds)! For an extra treat, top it with whipped cream, syrup, or marshmallows.

Perfect for every sweet adventure

Chocolate powder isn’t just for drinks! You can use it in many recipes, from cookies and cakes to smoothies. You can even add it to yogurt or oatmeal for a touch of sweetness at breakfast. Chocolate powder is perfect for any time of day, from a morning pick-me-up to an afternoon snack or even an evening dessert. Whether you’re enjoying it alone or with friends, a chocolate drink brings a moment of pleasure and relaxation that we all need. Because, let’s face it, who can resist a warm cup of chocolate?

Belgian hot chocolate: The queen of chocolates! The secret to a perfect Belgian hot chocolate lies in combining dark, semi-sweet, and milk chocolate with a pinch of salt and a hint of cinnamon for added depth of flavor.

Indian twist: Hot chocolate Chai combines ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom with white chocolate for a unique and aromatic twist.

Champurrado, Mexico: Champurrado is a traditional Mexican drink, popular during the winter months. Its distinct texture comes from masa harina (corn flour used for tortillas), which gives it a deliciously rustic flavor.

Cioccolata calda, Italy: Italian Cioccolata calda is famous for its thick, rich texture that almost requires a spoon! It contains cornstarch, giving it this smooth, velvety consistency, and is perfect alongside panettone or churros.
